THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF CLIMATE CRISIS ON MARITIME TRANSPORT AND MARINE INSURANCE CONTRACTS

This article shall focus on the climate crisis from the perspective of maritime and insurance law. First of all, the steps that International Maritime Organization has taken in order to emphasize the prevention of the increase of vessel related greenhouse gas emissions are explained. Secondly, Poseidon Principles’ effect on ship finance industry is questioned. Finally, whether the new technologies that would be used to enable greener and sustainable maritime transport, could affect the protection and indemnity (P&I) and, hull and machinery (H&M) insurance contracts in any way.
