Hukuk Kliniği

Purpose and Significance of Law Clinics

The Law Clinics Program is intended to complement law education, which is mostly based on theoretical knowledge, with practical methods. Thus, it provides an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the practice of law during their education. Street law, live client clinics, role-play clinics, legislation clinics and moot courts are the methods used at Law Clinic courses. Another important aspect of Law Clinics is in providing legal assistance and support to segments of society which cannot benefit from legal services adequately when they face problems related to their lives or work.

Progress of Law Clinics

Law Clinics have been implemented since the 1970s in various countries especially in the USA and Republic of South Africa. Law Clinics have been introduced in Turkey in recent years. The objectives of the “Development and Implementation of Law Clinic Methods” is being anticipated in Chapter 9 of the European Union accession process entitled “Improving Access to Justice” in the context of updating the Justice Reform Strategy prepared by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey. On the other hand, according to a decision by the Project Coordination Board under the authority of the Ministry, the “Law Clinics Project” is administered by the Directorate General for Strategy Development.
